Initially launched in 1975, the Q Timex Enigma merged a contemporary “space-age” design with cutting-edge quartz technology. The deep blue dial featured color-matched hands that combined with printing on the back of the crystal, which blocks the view of the central pinion, create a floating or “mystery” dial effect. A unique and appealing design, Timex has brought it back nearly 50 years later for a new generation of enthusiasts to enjoy.
The Q Timex 1975 Enigma features a 37mm stainless steel barrel case with a two-part design and fully polished finish for fluid lines. Matched with a large domed acrylic crystal, it has a playful, space-ship feel. The dial maintains the original’s restraint with a simple dark blue dial with a single index around its edge. Large blocky hour and minute hands with edge-to-edge white tips appear to float at a glance, while the seconds hand has an orange-filled pip for a spot of color. The Enigma is mounted to a 20mm single-link bracelet that adds some vintage appeal.
Ticking away inside of the Q is a Seiko quartz caliber for reliable timekeeping. A nice feature to this movement is the day/date indicator shown at three on the dial. Additionally, the case has an easy-access battery hatch, allowing you to swap the battery at home.
